Mounds Park Academy’s robotics team, the MPArors, is in need of mentors! They are looking for mentors with an expertise in a variety of areas including engineering, marketing, sponsorship, and community engagement.

Mentors play a significant role in the Robotics experience as they are able to teach, guide, and help the team build their robot. Mentors contribute real life experiences and ideas to help students build an organized team. Ideally, Mentors have a regularly scheduled time to the lab during the build season (January 3 – February 17) as well as any additional hours that can be provided.

“Being on the robotics team is a great opportunity that has helped me determine that I want to major in engineering. The team atmosphere is great, and the challenge and competitions are so much fun! The mentors act like engineering parental figures in the lab—guiding, helping, and teaching us important engineering concepts that have helped the MPA Robotics team become the successful organization it is today.” – Michelle Galbavy (Co-captain, Grade 12)

Last year the MPArors had a very sucessful season including finishing second in their regional competition on an alliance of 3 teams each, and we earned the Industrial Design Award (most simplistic design that functions and best withstands use). In addition, Brendan Boyle (Class of 2014) earned the Dean’s List Award —the most prestigious award an individual team member can earn. All of these accomplishments, along with general team attitude and hard work, qualified them for the State Championship (called the Minnesota State Regional), where we finished 11th out of 30 teams before the elimination rounds.
