As the 2016–17 school year comes to an end, we’re sharing the college choice stories of several members of the Class of 2017.
In what grade did you come to MPA?
I have been at MPA since kindergarten!
How did you come to choose the college that you did?
I chose Colby College for many reasons. I loved the campus and the location, in rural Maine surrounded by woods. I liked the class schedule and variety of courses available—not many schools have good education and language programs. Overall, I chose Colby because I felt comfortable on campus, and I could envision spending the next four years in the beautiful state of Maine.
What are you most excited about as you embark on your college experience?
I am most excited to gain a broader worldview through meeting new people and being exposed to different cultures. I am also excited to focus on what interests me the most!
What did you appreciate most about the college counseling process at MPA?
The college counseling process at MPA is wonderful because you can get as much or as little help as you want. Because I applied Early Decision to only Colby, the process was simpler for me, but Ms. Pederson was always there when I needed help.
What about your MPA experience has best prepared you for college?
MPA has prepared me in so many ways … everything from being confident in myself, to making new friends, to being part of a team in class and on the field.
What is your advice for the Class of 2029 (kindergartners)?
Find a class, teacher, club, sport, or subject that you love and the years will fly by!
Insights from Ms. Pederson, Director of College Counseling:
A veteran camper and leader at Widjiwagan and Camp duNord, Molly knew she wanted an outdoorsy New England college where she could pursue an education degree and also continue with her Nordic skiing career. Discovering she could do both at Colby in Maine, Molly applied through their Early Decision program and was accepted back in December. Throughout her search process, Molly was exceptionally organized and self-aware, stopping in with questions as they arose. Since making her college decision, she also has decided to do the “Andes and Amazon” program through Where There Be Dragons, which provides gap-year service-learning cultural education in many countries around the world. Something tells me Molly’s life will always be an adventure!
The 54 members of the Class of 2017 were offered admission to 113 different colleges/universities in 31 states, Washington D.C., and Canada. They will attend 33 different colleges/universities in 14 states. Learn more about MPA’s College Counseling program here! >
