Makerspace activitiesWe can’t wait to see you and your children in the Makerspace this year! There are many new activities and creative projects to explore, and Ms. Koen is so happy to guide you through them all. “I have some new ideas to bring to the table after taking an engineering class over the summer!” she said. We also have exciting announcements for Makerspace events both new and back by popular demand from last year!

Starting September 7, the Fiber Friends maker group will meet every Friday from 11 AM-12:30 PM. This group of knitters, crocheters, and textile gurus is open to faculty, parents, alumni, and students! If you want to participate, but do not know how to knit or crochet, beginners are always welcome!

Lower School STEAM club will begin in January and meet after school on Thursdays. There is a winter and a spring session, and registration will come out at the end of November! More reminders to come this Fall!

As for Middle School Makerspace activities, Middle School students may use the Makerspace on Mondays and Thursdays from 3-5 PM. There will be a clipboard to sign in upon arrival, and if students are not picked up by 5 PM, they will be directed to Panther Club.

Upper School students may use the Makerspace during lunch, recess, and study halls to work on projects or gather materials. As always, it is the student’s responsibility to ask for a pass if they may need one. The Makerspace will also be open for Upper Schoolers after school on Monday and Thursday from 3-5 PM.

Maker Fest will be back for another wonderful community event! Last year, we had students of all ages, parents, alums, and grandparents participate. This is the perfect place time and place to showcase a project or hobby you are passionate about. If you’re a maker or someone who loves to see just how creative our community is, save the date for MPA Maker Fest 2019 on February 23 from 1-3 PM!

And last but not least, if you have items that you would like to donate to the Makerspace, please drop them by anytime! There is a bin by the door across from the Cafeteria for donated supplies. Please put your name on the donation or fill out a donation slip (located on the bin) and give it to the Development Office! Thank you for upcycling your materials–we can’t wait to turn them into something new!
