MPA Track and Field hosted SPA and Minnehaha at the Schilling Track on a partly sunny, cool afternoon. On the girls’ side, notable performances included eighth grader Zoe M. winning the 100m dash in 13.2 (all times are hand timed). Eighth grader Greta M. finished third in the 100m in 13.7. In the 200m, that same eighth grade duo finished in first and fourth, with Zoe winning in 27.8 (10th all time at MPA) and Greta fourth in 29.2. In the 400m, 12th grader Sofia Walker finished second in 1:05.8, in the 800m, sophomore Izzy Quam finished second in 2:35.3, and in the 1600m, Katie Dahiya finished second in 5:49.0. In the 100m hurdles, Senior Ellie Quam won in 18.3 seconds, and in the 300m hurdles, Ellie was second in 53.2 and eighth grader Emily B. was tied for fourth in 55.5.
In the 4x100m, the team of Senior Ellie Quam, Junior Catherine Moore, and eighth graders Greta M. and Zoe M. won in 53.6, to place ninth all time on MPA’s top 10. In the 4x200m, the team of 10th grader Emma Cohen and eighth graders Alexa H., Emily B., and Cara S. finished second to SPA by 0.7 seconds, with a time of 2:04.9. In the 4x800m, the team of 12th graders Sofia Walker, Gabby Law, 10th grader Izzy Quam, and eighth grader Margo N. won in 11:09.9.
In the field events, MPA girls captured three wins. Junior Catherine Moore won the discus with a throw of 73’9, eighth graders Zoe M. and Greta M. went 1-2 in the long jump with Zoe winning in 14’9 and Greta placing second in 14’6, and Senior Gaby Law won the triple jump in 30’4. Junior Cecilia Driano placed third in the shot put with a distance of 25’6.75.
On the boys’ side, notable performances included Senior Tae’Vion Wilkins winning the 100m in 11.7 and the 200m in 23.7. In 400m, senior Henry Peterson placed third in 55.7 and junior Nathan Harvanko was fourth in 56.2. Senior Matthew Bourne placed second in the 800m in 2:10.3 and junior Henry Snider added a fourth place finish in 2:11.8. In the 1600m, ninth grader Isak Nightingale placed third in 5:05.4 and 10th grader Peter Manolis was fourth in 5:12.2. Senior Dylan Dickinson won the 110m hurdles with a time of 19.6 and Junior Charles Grimes finished in a third place tie in 21.3. Dylan also won the 300m hurdles in 49.0.
In the 4x100m, seniors Tae’Vion Wilkins, Ian Olson, and Flynn Opatz, and sophomore Caleb Rhodes placed second in 46.1, which places them fourth all time on MPA’s top 10 and qualifies them for the MSHSL honor roll. In the 4x400m, the team of seniors Henry Peterson and Matt Bourne, and juniors Nathan Harvanko and Henry Snider placed second with a time of 3:53.9. In the 4x800m, 12th graders Henry Peterson and Matt Bourne, 11th grader Henry Snider, and ninth grader Cullen Moore won in 9:00.2.
In the field events, notable performances include senior Yahya Madar winning the high jump in a stadium record 6’4, and Senior Tae’Vion Wilkins placing third in the triple jump with a jump of 37’4.
