In a great tune up meet before the Section 4A Championships, MPA Track and Field traveled to the St. Croix Lutheran Invitational in West St. Paul. Notable performances on the girls side include senior Sofia Walker placing second in the 400m in a personal best of 1:02.59. Her time is fourth all time in MPA history! Senior Gabby Law came in sixth in the 400m, running a personal best of 1:07.49. In the 800m, sophomore Katie Dahiya placed second with a personal best time of 2:43.47. In the 1600m, junior Izzy George ran a personal best of 6:56.61, breaking seven minutes for the first time thanks to a dramatic kick over the last 100m! In the 100m hurdles, eighth grader Emily B. ran a personal best of 18.91 to place fourth, earning the tenth spot on the MPA top ten in that event.
In the girls triple jump, senior Gabby Law tied her season best of 30.11 to place third. Eighth grader Zoe M. added a third place finish in the long jump, recording a 14.8. In the shot put, ninth grader Rose Thompson-Nelson placed eighth with a personal best of 26.4, good for tenth place all time at MPA. In the discus, junior Catherine Moore placed third with a personal best throw of 93.7, good for seventh best all time at MPA.
In the 4x100m, the team of junior Catherine Moore, ninth grader Ella Fruchterman, and eighth graders Zoe M., and Greta M. (Gentry Academy) won with a time of 53.26. In the 4x400m, seniors Sofia Walker and Gabby Law, junior Catherine Moore and eighth grader Greta M. won with a time of 4:20.93, good for second place all time at MPA and the fastest MPA girls 4x400m since 2003! In the 4x800m, the team of sophomores Katie Dahiya and Izzy Quam, and eighth graders Cara S. (Gentry) and Margo N. won in 11:00.53.
On the boys side, senior Flynn Opatz placed third in the 200m with a season best time of 24.11, and junior Nathan Harvanko ran a personal best of 24.42 to place sixth in that race. In the 400m, senior Henry Peterson won with a personal best time of 53.83. In the 800m, junior Henry Snider finished third in a personal best time of 2:05.22, now ninth all time at MPA. He qualifies for the state honor roll in the 800m. In the 1600m, senior Matthew Bourne finished third, running 4:37.39, good for seventh all time at MPA. He also qualifies for the state honor roll. In the 300m hurdles, junior Charles Grimes ran a personal best 48.29, now tenth all time at MPA. In the triple jump, senior Dylan Dickinson recorded a personal best of 37.2, placing fifth. In the discus, junior Shane Fruchterman recorded a personal best with 93.8 to place seventh. In the high jump, senior Yahya Madar won with a jump of 6’2.
In the 4x100m, seniors Tae’Vion Wilkins, Ian Olson, junior Shane Fruchterman and sophomore Caleb Rhodes ran 46.92 to place second. In the 4x200m, seniors Tae’Vion Wilkins, Ian Olson and Flynn Opatz, and junior Nathan Harvanko ran to a second place finish in 1:36.74, their fastest time so far this season. In the 4x400m, seniors Tae’Vion Wilkins and Flynn Opatz, junior Nathan Harvanko and ninth grader Cullen Moore ran 3:39.37 to finish second. Their time was seventh all time at MPA. MPA’s second 4x400m relay team, seniors Henry Peterson, Matt Bourne and Yahya Madar, and junior Henry Snider placed third in 3:46.01. In the 4x800m, Peter Manolis, Henry Peterson, Isak Nightingale and Henry Snider won in 8:47.88.
MPA’s boys team placed fourth of twelve teams and MPA’s girls team placed third! The Section 4A Championships await next Thursday and Saturday!
