Dylan Saul ’11 was the all-important fifth runner on MPA’s first ever state qualifying cross country team in 2008. Just a sophomore, Saul’s tenacity and selflessness helped bring home a sixth place finish at the class A state cross country meet for the Panthers.

In the subsequent two years, Saul earned Tri Metro all-conference honors as both a junior and senior, and finished with a personal best 17:43 5K, now 20th best all-time at MPA. Like many cross country runners, Saul also participated in Nordic skiing and track and field. On the track, Saul made the top ten list in both the 4x1600m relay and 3200m run.

Saul continued his athletics career, competing collegiately in both cross country running and track and field at Macalester College in St. Paul. “I chose Macalester because of its friendly atmosphere, amazing student body, close connection to professors, and great reputation, both internationally and here in the Twin Cities,” Saul told Macalester.edu. As a Scot, Saul recorded a personal best 8K of 26:31, the 35th best all-time at Macalester. Majoring in political science, he earned MIAC Conference academic all-conference honors as a senior.

“Being a student athlete at Mac has taught me to always keep life in balance: to supplement my work with exercise, and apply the lessons I learn on the course, in class,” Saul told Macalester.edu. “Above all, I’ve learned that no one goes through life alone. We all need a team with us to achieve our full potential.”

Saul graduated Cum Laude from Macalester with degree in political science focusing on American law. In 2018 and 2019, he coached the distance runners for MPA’s track and field team and is now in law school at the University of Minnesota.
