Confidence in the future is at an all-time low for Americans. A recent survey by the Pew Research Center found that many Americans hold negative views about our collective future. It’s not hard to see why. Global strife, an uncertain economy, political vitriol, social discord, and climate change, to name a few, all contribute to the current uneasiness many feel.
Yet, I remain a firm optimist. While I don’t discount our current reality, I have faith in the future because MPA students inspire me each and every day. I see eighth graders working together to imagine, research, design, and build future cities that showcase their solutions to a citywide sustainability issue. I see Upper School students grappling with and researching complex topics in debate, forming arguments grounded in evidence and the result of critical thinking. I see Lower School students learning about and practicing essential social skills such as kindness, respect, listening, and conflict resolution.
I invite you to join me in investing in our students and ensuring their brighter future. Our annual Fall Campaign, “Your Gift, Their Future,” launches this Saturday, November 11, and ends on November 18. Thursday, November 16, is the very special “Give to the Max Day,” culminating with an all-school assembly featuring a faculty and staff lip-sync competition.
November is the time of year we ask our entire community—current parents, alums, parents of alums, grandparents, and other supporters—to help us reach our critical goals. One of the ways to belong to a community is to invest in it financially. A gift shows support for the school and its mission. Collective community support makes a difference, and each person’s gift—at any level—matters, too. Notably, employees and the board of trustees have historically had 100% participation rates.
Our goal this year is to raise $500,000 to support students in the following ways:
- Academic Innovation
- Access
- Arts
- Athletics
