Micah Hudock ’24 wasn’t sure if he would end up becoming the MPA all-time leading scorer in boys history. After missing time due to injuries, the senior needed to make the most of his opportunities on the court.
“I dealt with a lot of ankle injuries on my first, second, and third year playing on the team,” Micah said.
Overcoming the time missed, he was able to do just that, eclipsing the Panthers record for boys scoring by beating the previous high of 1,256. The previous record was held by Brendan Connolly ’17.
“It’s pretty cool,” Micah said. “It means a lot to be able to overcome all that.”
While an individual record, Micah credits those around him for helping him pass the total on Friday, March 1, during the team’s 84-61 victory over Chesterton Academy. Namely, the previous record-holder Brendan, who is now an assistant coach for MPA.
“Our assistant coach, coach Connelly, is the one who had the previous record, so it was really cool for him to be there with me while I’m trying to make it towards that goal,” Micah said.
Along with Brendan helping him, the new record wouldn’t have been possible without aid from his teammates and coaches, Micah said.
“Without my teammates, there’s no possibility I could have the opportunities that I have been having. The coaches, too, they are a huge reason I was able to get here.”
Micah will look to strengthen his grasp on the record, with the Panthers starting their Section 4AA playoffs, taking on Nova Classical. The game will be played March 7 at 5 PM in the Lansing Center.
