Welcome to MPA, Kelly Zender! Kelly began as an instructional coach on August 14, and we can’t wait to see her impact on the community!
From what school/organization are you coming?
I previously worked at DaVinci Academy of Arts and Science.
Tell us about your education and past experience.
I hold a bachelor’s degree from Minnesota State University-Mankato and a master’s degree from Hamline University. With over 20 years in education, I have taught grades 2-5 and occasionally middle school. My diverse roles include instructional coach, director of teaching and learning, and most recently, elementary school principal at a K-5 charter school. My extensive experience reflects a deep commitment to fostering student growth and leading educational excellence.
What did you find appealing about MPA?
I was drawn to Mounds Park Academy because of its unwavering commitment to fostering an inclusive, innovative, and student-centered learning environment. The school’s emphasis on academic excellence and holistic development aligns with my passion for creating engaging and supportive educational experiences. Mounds Park Academy’s strong sense of community, combined with its forward-thinking approach to education, offers a unique opportunity to contribute to a dynamic and nurturing environment. I am excited by the prospect of working in a setting that values creativity, collaboration, and individualized growth, and I am eager to bring my skills and enthusiasm to a place where every student’s potential is recognized and cultivated.
What lasting impact do you plan to have on MPA?
At Mounds Park Academy, I aim to make a lasting impact by leveraging my extensive experience to enhance differentiation, ensuring that the diverse needs of all learners are met effectively. I plan to support teachers in refining their practice by emphasizing best practices and engaging lesson design. Collaborating with educators to develop innovative strategies for classroom management will be a key focus, as will fostering impactful relationships with all stakeholders in the MPA community. My goal is to contribute to a collaborative environment where every student thrives, every teacher grows, and the community as a whole advances in its mission of educational excellence.
What’s your big dream?
One of my dreams is to have the opportunity to travel more, explore new places, and experience diverse cultures to enrich my perspective and create unforgettable memories.
What are you and your family passionate about?
I am passionate about a variety of interests that keep me engaged and connected. I love thrifting, finding unique treasures, and enjoying the thrill of the hunt. Puzzles are a favorite pastime, providing both challenge and relaxation. I also love to travel and see new parts of the world. My three children—Charlie, a sophomore at Grand Canyon University; Chloe, a senior at White Bear Lake High School; and Molly, a freshman at White Bear Lake High School—bring immense joy and pride to my life. You can find me cheering them on at the tennis court and the lacrosse field.
What’s a fun fact about you that our community would love to know?
In high school, I had the opportunity to sing at the Grand Ole Opry in a vocal competition and perform with our high school show choir.
