We’ve had a fun few weeks in the Lower School. With the weather in full swing from the icy temps of last week, our playground is now a soft and springy area with some puddles and mud. Please continue to send your child to school with boots so they can continue to enjoy playing on our wetter playground. This week’s CHAMP assembly was a blast. We celebrated Black History Month, were treated to a fabulous play on the Chinese Zodiac by our fourth graders and Ms. Heather, and welcomed a wonderful student-led and student-planned dance performance. Next week is our last before spring break, and we will host the Lower School Art and Music Show before the vacation starts. Read on for more updates!

Lower School Art and Music Show: Thursday, March 6
We are excited for our upcoming Art and Music Show, which will take place on Thursday, March 6. The Art Show will open at 5:15 PM, followed by the Music Show in the Nicholson Center at 6 PM. An important note from Mrs. Gallick and Ms. Scharfenberg: Students should dress in a black top and black pants, shorts, or skirts with shorts or leggings underneath. Their clothing should be comfortable for movement and sitting on the floor to play instruments. Athletic shoes (any color) are preferred. We look forward to seeing you at the show!

Express Yourself Friday: February 28
It has been so fabulous to see our students expressing their passions, interests and amazing personalities on the last Friday of each month! Our next Express Yourself Friday will take place on February 28. We will also celebrate our February birthdays at lunch, where birthday students are invited to sit at special tables.

Birthday Bag Project: February 24-28
From February 24 to February 28, we are inviting Lower School students to join us by bringing in spare change to contribute to the purchase of the items for the birthday bag project. Each day, the second graders will collect and count this change. Students are asked to bring:

  • Pennies on Monday, February 24
  • Nickels on Tuesday, February 25
  • Dimes on Wednesday, February 26
  • Quarters on Thursday, February 27
  • Dollars on Friday, February 28

Last year’s generous donations allowed us to assemble 50 gift boxes/bags. Each box costs approx. $20.00, giving us a grand total of $1,000! Our goal is to obtain a similar amount this year. In addition to change, we are happy to accept donations of cake mixes, frosting, candles, and books. All items can be turned into your child’s homeroom on or before March 3. Lower School students will be decorating a birthday bag and/or a birthday card with their beautiful drawings and well wishes. Families at Emma’s Place will use these to help them pack their gifts. We will also be providing cake mix, frosting, and candles in bulk for families to take and enjoy. Please contact Mrs. Scalia or Ms. Fisher with any questions or ideas!
