Greetings, families, and happy (almost) March! We are so excited around the Middle School for our upcoming i-Term next week; you can feel the excitement in the air. Busses are ordered, bags are packed, and we’ve got museums and cemeteries around the Twin Cities waiting for our students to come and learn. With folks going as far away as New York City, Quebec City, and the Boundary Waters, and others learning here in our Makerspace and Wizarding School, we are so excited for all 12 of our courses this year.
A few reminders with i-Term coming up:
- Be sure to be on time—we’ve got planes and buses to catch, and our leaders have put a lot of time and energy into planning these courses. It is imperative that all students are here and ready to go each day for their courses.
- Be curious about what your student learns each day. Experiential learning is not always as linear or concrete as learning from discussions or textbooks (not that our students do too much of that anyway), but we know it can be both impactful and transformative, especially when our learners are asked to reflect on what they did. Ask your child to share a story about something they learned or accomplished (one course is literally punching holes in a wall and then patching them up), and see how these experiences may have changed their perspective on things.
- Know that your Middle Schooler is well cared for. Our trip leaders have taken time and effort to craft truly unique experiences (like a visit to a funeral home) for the course that your child chose, and our kids are in the best of hands. If they are here on campus, we are still running P.E. classes in the morning and recess after lunch.
i-Term Showcase of Learning
Please join us next Friday, March 7, at 2:30 PM for our Showcase of Learning from the i-Term courses. What a wonderful way to go into our Spring Break! All courses that are back in time will share some aspects of their learning with the Middle School community. We hope to have some films to watch, a Grecian play, wizards casting spells, mummified fruit, knitted apparel, PlayMo models, along with stories and photos from up north and the Big Apple.
