As we head into our fourth quarter of the year, my question for our Middle Schoolers is, “How can you make this last quarter your BEST quarter?” Challenging them to reflect on all that they’ve learned so far this year and to finish off the year, over our final eight weeks of school, as strong as possible can be both challenging and rewarding. With so many different opportunities for our students to showcase their learning, from concerts and the musical to their final assessments, papers, projects, and presentations, we will work hard to keep them (and you) well-organized, prepared, and balanced for the work ahead.

One of the very best ways to find balance is to ensure that we get enough sleep! Our recent Students and Screens session with Dr. Audrey Wells was incredibly informative and our biggest session yet! Dr. Wells encouraged us to use our five senses for daytime energy and restful sleep with suggestions such as using bright light to help us wake up in the morning and dimming lights at night (and being sure to get off our screens well before bedtime), how to use white or pink noise to help us sleep, and the influence that calming scents such as lavender or clary sage can have on to help cue relaxation. Dr. Wells talked with us about family media boxes and took us through the metrics of sleep help and what might happen if you are not getting enough sleep, including how screens can sabotage your sleep. If you want to know more about our Students and Screens sessions or what we might be tackling next, please reach out to me!

In the weeks ahead, please join me for our final Middle School Coffee on Tuesday, April 22, in the library. We will take some time to reflect on the past (How was i-Term for your child?), celebrate the present (What does May look like for our Middle School students and families?), and look to the future (What exciting changes do we have in store for the Middle School next year?).

And please join us later this month as young Dorothy Gale is swept away by a tornado from her Kansas farm to the magical land of Oz. Based on the 1939 movie, Dorothy meets a host of whimsical characters: Glenda the Good Witch, The Wicked Witch of the West, the Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Cowardly Lion. To find her way home, she must journey along the Yellow Brick Road to see the mysterious and all-powerful Wizard in Emerald City. Filled with all the familiar songs and the story that you know, this production is not your Grandma’s Oz. A Modern-day Kansas and a futuristic Oz will funnel in a new audience to the classic story. This production is appropriate for all ages. There are three performances scheduled in the Nicholson Center:

  • Thursday, April 24 at 7 PM
  • Saturday, April 26 at 7 PM
  • Sunday, April 27 at 2 PM

Tickets for this wonderful performance can be purchased here.
