MPA's development and community engagement team providing an update on the spring auction. from Ashley Goetzke, director of development and community engagement

Editor’s Note: Periodically, you will find a guest Head’s Message here from members of the administrative team. We hope you will enjoy reading their thoughts and reflections about life at MPA.

When I started at Mounds Park Academy, it was the week of the 2016 MPA Spring Auction: Night at the Museum. I was immediately immersed in the energy and excitement of this incredible event. The development office buzzed with anticipation, but more than anything, I felt a profound sense of togetherness, the kind that defines MPA.

Experiencing my first Spring Auction was unlike anything I had been part of before. I was thrown into the whirlwind of planning, met incredible people, and saw firsthand what makes MPA so special. That night, I went home to my husband, Matt, and told him, “This is where I want to be.” That feeling of warmth, generosity, and joy has stayed with me ever since.

For me, the Spring Auction is, above all, about community. It is an evening where parents, alumni, employees, grandparents, and friends come together in celebration and support of our students and the future of MPA. It is a night filled with laughter, generosity, and the shared love we all have for this school.

This year’s Gala of Gratitude is even more special as we honor Dr. Bill Hudson and the profound impact he has had over his 12 years as head of school. Dr. Hudson has led MPA with vision, compassion, and a deep belief in the power of education. His commitment to fostering resilience, academic excellence, and a strong sense of belonging has left a lasting mark on our students, faculty, and families. As we come together on April 4, we will not only celebrate his leadership but also ensure that his legacy continues to uplift students for generations to come.

At the heart of this year’s Spring Auction is the 2025 Fund A Need: the Hudson Fund for Resilient Students. This initiative is built on the core belief that no student should have to leave MPA due to unexpected financial hardship or challenging life circumstances.

While we have long supported students in their journey to join MPA, this fund ensures that both current and future students have access to the education, stability, and support they need. The Hudson Fund ensures that current students facing unexpected challenges—whether a family emergency, financial hardship, or personal crisis—can continue to learn, grow, and thrive. It also provides a safe haven for those seeking a better educational fit.

Whether you join us in person or give from afar, we hope you will take part in this meaningful effort to honor Dr. Hudson and the students who inspire us every day.

Above this message, you’ll find a special video from our department highlighting what this evening is all about, our shared gratitude, our love for this school, and the deep impact Dr. Hudson has had.

Let’s come together as we always do, with kindness, generosity, and community. We can’t wait to see you there!
