The Ferlic family will be on the run this weekend.

On Saturday, Evan, a junior, and brother, Nolan, a senior, will run for Mounds Park Academy in the cross country state meet at St. Olaf College in Northfield. They helped the Panthers finish second in the team competition of the Class A-Section 4 meet last week at Battle Creek Regional Park.

Evan was ninth overall with a time of 17:02.8, and Nolan, who also is the school’s varsity soccer goalkeeper, was 21st in 17:42.3.

On Sunday, older brother, Mason, a junior at the University of Michigan, will compete in the Big Ten Championships in West Lafayette, Ind. Mason, the Big Ten’s cross country athlete of the week last week, won the Minnesota high school cross country meet his senior year and then won state track championships in the 1,600 and 3,200.

Homecoming Cross Country Success

milaca-boys-trophyFrom Cross Country coach Daniel Ethier: MPA Cross country traveled 90 minutes north for our “homecoming” but it was a successful trip. 12 runners set new personal records, many by large chunks, 4 runners earned ribbons for finishing in the top 25 of their races, all of which had hundreds of runners, and our boys earned the 2nd place team trophy in the class A (smallest schools) division. They missed 1st place by just 5 points. This despite one of our runners getting tripped shortly after the start!

Our girls had our top five runners (the scoring runners) all under 18 minutes. I can’t remember the last time we did that.
