MPA Alumnus Named “Big Ten Athlete of the Week”

MPA Alumnus Mason Ferlic (’11) was named Big Ten Athlete of the Week for his performance on the University of Michigan Cross Country team. While at MPA, Ferlic was the State Champion his junior and senior years in the 3200 meter run. He also won the State Championship in the 1600 meter run his senior year.

Here is the full story on his recent Big Ten Conference honor from the University of Michigan athletics website.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Sophomore Mason Ferlic (St. Paul, Minn./Mounds Park Academy)
of the 26th-ranked University of Michigan men’s cross country team was
named the Big Ten Athlete of the Week, the conference announced on
Tuesday (Sept. 25).

In his season debut, Ferlic led all Wolverine harriers across the
finish line at the Virginia/Panorama Farms invitational on Sept. 22,
finishing sixth overall. Ferlic and U-M’s other four scorers each
finished within the top 25, tallying 75 points to push U-M to fourth in a
10-team field.

As the only underclassmen to finish in the top 10, he clocked a
career-best 8,000-meter time of 24:28.5, topping his previous-best time
by 1:07.55. Ferlic also finished ahead of four of fourth-ranked
Oklahoma’s scorers.

This marks the first weekly honor of Ferlic’s career and the first for the Wolverines since Oct. 13, 2009, when Peter Christmas earned the distinction.

Michigan will be back in action on Sept. 28 when it travels to South
Bend, Ind., for the Notre Dame Invitational. The men’s 8,000-meter event
is slated for a 5 p.m. start time.

Clinic sessions will introduce your ballplayer to the game of baseball/softball. The clinics will focus on building confidence by developing fundamental skills and knowledge so that playing baseball/softball is fun.

Unlike the Little Hoopsters basketball clinics that were run immediately after school, baseball/softball requires more one-on-one attention, so it would be ideal to have a parent (no experience required) accompany each ballplayer. The added benefit, of course, is the time spent together playing the great American pastime.
