Attendance Eligibility

Students may not participate in extracurricular activities (practice, game, or competition) if they are not in school by 11:00 am.  Exceptions may be made based upon previously scheduled arrangements or unique student situations.

Academic Eligibility

Mounds Park Academy is committed to academic success; therefore, a student’s academic performance is linked to their eligibility for extracurricular activities.

A student may be ineligible to participate in extra-curricular activities if:

  • They have fallen below 60% (D) in any one class, or

  • They have fallen below 70% (C) in two or more classes

Teachers should notify the Upper School administrators (via the Student Support Referral Form) when a student has fallen below 60% (D). Once this happens, Upper School administrators will notify the student and their family. Students are given seven (7) calendar days to raise their grade to remain eligible for extracurricular activities. If this time elapses and the standard is still not met, they will become ineligible for extracurricular participation (practice, game, or competition). A grade of “Incomplete” may also trigger automatic ineligibility.

Eligibility is restored as soon as the teacher notifies the Upper School administrators that the student’s grade is above the 60% threshold and/or that the incomplete work has been completed. Communication about eligibility and ineligibility, directed to the student and their family, will come from the Upper School administration.

Upper School Faculty will continue to update student grades and provide timely feedback using Schoology. The Upper School Administrative Assistant will complete a “grade pull” on the 1st and 15th of each month and administration will review grades. It may be determined, through this process, that a student is ineligible for extracurricular activities if grades fall below the thresholds outlined above. Upper School administrators will communicate this directly with the student and their family.

Extracurricular activities at MPA include athletics, theater, robotics, Quiz Bowl, debate, speech, etc.

Exceptions may be made based upon unique student situations.

Additional support, i.e. structured study halls for Juniors and Seniors will be implemented when students are working to regain eligibility. Senior Privileges will be on pause during this time as well.
