Middle School Supply Lists
Middle School Supply Lists for 2024-25
All Middle School students are assigned a combination locker and are encouraged to keep it organized and to utilize access to their locker to support self-management throughout the day. We do not allow backpacks to be carried from class to class, but rather we will work with students to bring only what they need to each class. A backpack is essential to carry items from school to home and back again, and we also suggest having a pencil pouch or small pencil bag to hold pens, pencils, glue sticks, highlighters, and other small items that students may need to carry throughout the day. Also, when selecting a binder for organization, make sure it can be easily carried. If selecting a smaller binder, or multiple small binders/folders (one for each class) is easier, we welcome students to do that as well.
Students are required to change clothes before and after Physical Education (PE) classes in grades 5-8. Students should bring clothing appropriate for physical activity to school to remain in their gym locker along with an extra pair of tennis shoes (no black soles, please). The following is appropriate and required clothing:
- Short or long-sleeved t-shirt (weather appropriate). Any graphics or text must be school appropriate and not contain offensive or derogatory language, images, or symbols.
- Athletic style shorts or athletic pants/joggers.
- Athletic shoes (to be left at school in locker) - please choose a non-marking sole.
- Deodorant to be kept in PE locker.
- Combination lock for PE locker. This is optional but highly encouraged. Each student provides their own lock for their PE locker.
Finally, we encourage students to drink water and remain hydrated and healthy. All water filling stations are available to students. We encourage students to bring a water bottle with them to school that can be left in their locker for daily use. Please purchase a no-spill water bottle with a securely closing lid and/or straw.
GENERAL NOTES for Middle School Families
- Please label everything clearly with the student's full name.
- All middle school students will receive an MPA student planner on the first day of school. There is no additional charge for this.
- You do NOT need to purchase any textbooks, novels, or workbooks. If a school issued workbook or textbook is lost or damaged, the student may be asked to pay for its replacement.
- Supplies specific to a project or disciplinary curriculum will be provided by MPA (i.e., art supplies, Microbits © kits, science materials, etc.)
- IMPORTANT: All students must have a personal pair of earbuds/earphones that can be used with their computer. All students use a MacBook Air at school and wired headphones will need to use appropriate connection via USB (Bluetooth capable are a nice choice). We will not be able to loan earbuds.
- Consumable school supplies on this list must be replaced/replenished by families when needed. This includes, but is not limited to, pencils, pens, colored pencils, paper, etc. While teachers have materials for students to borrow, it is a student's responsibility to bring with them required materials to school and class.
A note about cell phones: Cell phone usage is not permitted during the day in Middle School at MPA. If your student has a cell phone, it should be turned off (powered complete down) before the start of block one and not be utilized until after 3pm. It should be stored in their locker and/or backpack (which stays in the locker). If a student needs access to their phone for any reason, they must first speak with a teacher or adult to do so.
A note about individual organization: Much of what is included here is intended to support your student's self-organization and management. If your student has an efficient and effective organizational system (I.e., prefers binders over an accordion file), please feel free to stick with that system. If your child has not yet reached a point of managing multiple classes and teachers, we ask that you follow OPTION B for a system that reinforces positive executive function development to assist with their academic success.
- Students should purchase ONE of the following:
- Option A: Three (3) 3-ring binders (1-inch) with two-pocket insertable plastic dividers for each, OR
- Option B: 1 zipped 3-ring binder with two-pocket insertable plastic dividers in 5 colors (Avery 11903 recommended to fit inside the binder) OR binder equipped with accordion folder
